They set their own syllabus, but the affiliating university awards the degree.

Autonomy is a good signal about how current the teaching is: an autonomous college can revise its curriculum in a year where a university may take several. But the degree on your certificate is the university’s, not the college’s.
What this tier means for you
- Syllabus is usually more current than a non-autonomous college.
- The award comes from the affiliating university — check that university’s standing too.
- Autonomy is about curriculum control, not about degree-awarding power.
